Martin Hughes
I had an idyllic childhood, growing up near High Point, North Carolina which was a hotbed of furniture design and manufacturing in the seventies. Almost everyone I knew was connected with the furniture industry. My grandfather worked at Thomasville Furniture for over thirty years. Being exposed at a young age reinforced my love of furniture and design.
Before transitioning into the world of decorating, I worked for Ralph Lauren where I honed the craft of mixing patterns and textures and the importance that color plays in design. That valuable experience opened the door to Anichini and the luxury home market where I collaborated with hospitality designers to create luxury suites.
Finally realizing my passion, a friend with a new apartment and a constant nudge to decorate, I began my design studio, M Studiolo. My approach is deeply committed to client services; driven by a collaborative effort between client and decorator with a refined attention to detail. I work in a variety of styles, not wedded to a particular model or period. Each project reflects the personality and lifestyle of the client. Working closely with builders, architects and artisans allows M Studiolo to offer a seamless turnkey approach to each project.
Building on my Southern roots has afforded me the luxury of lasting relationships with bespoke workshops and artisans in North Carolina, handcrafting furniture, lighting, and metal works.
M Studiolo has completed projects in New York, Florida, the Caribbean and London.
